Vegan Peeps Win Blind Taste Test

Taste tests are the ultimate level playing field. With all biases eliminated, fairness rules, and the power of the palate reigns supreme.

And now a taste test (by omnivores!) has proven that vegan marshmallows are even more awesome than their gelatin-laden counterparts.

When paired against Peeps, Williams’ Sonoma ‘mallows and something fromΒ Etsy, Sweet and Sara’s vegan Peeps (aka Veeps) won Slate.com’s blind taste test.

The judges were Slate.com’s Associate Editor Laura Anderson and Dan Pashman, host of the Sporkful food podcast.Β Despite Pashman’s initial assumptions about the vegan Peeps, he and Anderson both loved the dense, flavorful taste of the handcrafted Veeps.

“I like vegan sweets in general. There’s a lot of good vegan baking out there, and this just reinforces that, at least in the sweet department, vegans know what they’re doing,” Pashman said, after learning which Peep he’d chosen.
