Vegan Fast Food Joint Plans to Expand into More Locations; Launches Crowdfunding Campaign
When Plant Power Fast Food opened its doors in San Diego, Calif. earlier this year, people flocked to the drive-up to scarf down burgers, fries, tacos, egg sandwiches, milkshakes, and other familiar comfort foods. The twist is, Plant Power’s entire menu is free from animal ingredients.
With chains like McDonald’s and Burger King on their way out, the future looks bright for innovative, healthy fast food options. And that’s where Plant Power steps up. The owners are looking to expand their model of cruelty-free cuisine into more eateries — and they’ve launched a Crowdfunding campaign to help make it happen.
“I know it sounds big, but we really do want to revolutionize the current fast food model and turn it into something healthy and positive for everyone,” co-founder Jeffrey Harris tells Latest Vegan News.
The second location for the fast food chain has already been confirmed. It’s in Encinitas, Calif., and features a full-service drive-thru. Once the funds are raised, the path to opening will be underway.
Over time, the owners are looking to create a regional chain of vegan fast food eateries. While Plant Power has multiple investors, the Crowdfunding component is the final piece of the financial puzzle, and it’ll help them kickstart the chain.
“When I was a kid, I enjoyed getting a burger, fries and a milkshake from McDonalds,” says Harris. “Of course, after becoming a vegetarian, then vegan, all those fast food restaurants suddenly seemed off limits to me. These days, there’s a lot of us out there who now understand that eating animal products isn’t very good for our bodies or for the environment. And it certainly isn’t very nice for our animal friends. More and more people are starting to look for a healthier, more sustainable way to eat while they’re on the go in their busy lives.”
Plant Power was founded with that in mind. “My partners and I wanted to make it easier for everyone to experience how delicious and convenient plant-based food can be, so that each person, in his or her own way, could begin to make different choices.”
