Vegan Bar Hosts Real-Life Puppy Bowl

puppy-bowl-2Sanctuary Brewing Company isn’t your average bar. The Hendersonville, North Carolina, watering hole is dedicated to two very important concepts: craft brews and rescues.

Known for its totally unique, animal-advocacy focused events, the popular spot hosted an extra-special shindig yesterday: a real-life Puppy Bowl complete with adoptable puppies and kittens.

“Actually it was one of our regulars who came up with the idea [for the Puppy Bowl],” co-owner Lisa McDonald tells Latest Vegan News. “We thought it was genius. We contacted Eryn at Blue Ridge Humane Society immediately to see if they had enough puppies, and they did! Brother Wolf agreed to bring kittens, and the Puppy Bowl was on!”

Owned by McDonald and partner Joe Dinan, the vegan bar hosts a full calendar of animal-focused events. In the six months since its opening, the brewery has hosted a pet psychic, offered photos with Santa, launched a Halloween costume contest — and for Valentine’s Day, will offer speed dating for pets (and people). Via its various events and community support, the bar has also helped dozens of pets find happy new homes.

Now the answer to everyone’s burning question: who was the big winner of the Sanctuary Brewing Puppy Bowl? Team Gruff, 28; Team Tuff, 14. Congrats to the lucky pups.
