Let’s be honest: everything’s better with butter. From flaky croissants to jam-and-toast to broccoli, it’s the iconic ingredient that levels up whatever it touches.
And these days, there’s no need for cows to be involved to get that rich, delicious buttery taste. From omega-rich macadamias to flavored coconut oil — there’s a non-dairy and plant-based butter option for everyone.
So, here’s your ultimate guide to all the vegan butter brands we get to choose from in the U S of A:
The one and only buttery spread made from omega-rich macadamias using regenerative agriculture (which combats climate change, win!), milkadamia’s yummy new palm oil-free vegan butter recently rolled out to Whole Foods across the country. It also comes in unsalted.
Vegan cheese purveyor Miyoko’s Creamery makes a creamy, coconut oil-based, European style VeganButter as well as two new oat milk butter varieties (hitting stores next year). Check out the store locator for where to buy this vegan butter brand.
The Cultured Kitchen’s Better Buttah
This all-vegan company makes a sunflower oil and sustainable palm oil-based butter called Better Buttah Spread. It’s available at select retailers and online.
The Rich & Creamy Melt Organic Spread is made with coconut, sustainable palm fruit, canola, sunflower, and flax seed oils. It also comes in sticks and it’s available in national retailers (and online). Check out the store locator for where to buy.
This OG option has a lengthy lineup of buttery selections including organic, soy-free, European style, coconut-based, and sticks, among others. Made with palm fruit, canola, soybean, flax, and olive oils, you can check out the store locator for where to buy.
Forager Plant-Based Butter Alternative
This dairy-free creamery makes a smooth, creamy spread from coconut oil, sunflower oil and other plant-based ingredients — plus no palm oil. Check out the store locator for where to scoop it up.
This brand has been around forever and just recently launched its own line of vegan butters. Made with a base of soybean, palm kernel, and palm fruit oil, it comes in different varieties in sticks and tubs that also include almond oil, olive oil, or avocado oil. Check out the store locator for where to buy.
I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter
Now on board with the plant-based revolution, ICBITB has added a vegan variety to its lineup of old school buttery spreads and sprays. Made with soybean oil, palm kernel oil, and palm oil, you can check out the store locator to find it.
Ellyndale Organics Coconut Infusions
This butter flavored coconut oil is unrefined and totally vegan. The oil also comes in packets for your cooking convenience. It’s available in natural food stores nationwide, and online.
This non-dairy purveyor of dips, cheeses, and puddings also makes a salted whipped buttery spread. It’s made with organic butter beans, coconut oil, and safflower oil, and you can order it online or check out WayFare’s store finder for where to buy.
Made from ever-versatile aquafaba (also known as chickpea water), this vegan butter is a new creation and available at Eataly Italian markets nationwide (as well as online).
Thrive Market Organic Buttery Coconut Oil
If you’re into online shopping, Thrive Market now offers its own butter-flavored coconut oil that can be used on toast, in recipes, or wherever you’re looking for that familiar flavor.
Last on the list because it’s not available in retailers (yet), Wild Brine unveiled a cultured cashew butter at Expo West earlier this year.

Nuttelex is an established vegan butter from Australia which should be on your list.
Great to hear! Love learning about new brands. Doesn't look like it's available in the U.S. though? Sorry, I should have specified that this list is U.S. based. I'd love to cover everything that sells internationally on this site but that's a little more than I can tackle.
Better Buttah is the best one I’ve tried in almost 20 years of being vegan. So far I can only find it at Mylk Guys.

Ooooh, thanks for the tip! Sounds yummy. I'll add. :)
Smart Balance is similar to Earth Balance, but offers a Light option with half the fat. It tastes just like butter and is vegan.
Hi Phyllis! I did think about including Smart Balance but the company doesn't label it as vegan -- hence why I left it out. I know ingredients-wise it probably is though, so I may go ahead and add it. I appreciate the input! :)
