Food Network’s Chopped cooking competition is no stranger to vegan eats. In 2013, Rich Landau of famed Philadelphia restaurant, Vedge, took home top honors with his culinary handiwork.
Now the network’s younger-skewing cooking program, Chopped Teen Tournament, is delving into plant-based ingredients, too.
In a upcoming episode of the show, airing Tuesday, September 8, 13 and 14-year-old competitors will be utilizing vegan chicken in the appetizer round. The episode also sees them working with butternut squashes, okra and cookies.
Competitors include Alexina Chasin, Allison Lee, Eliza McKelvey, and Jarren Pross. The teen winners from each episode will earn a sport to the show’s finale with a chance at winning a grand prize of $25,000.
The episode, titled “Teen Tournament: Episode Three” will premiere on Tuesday, September 8, at 10 p.m. on the Food Network.
