Spring is in the air, and with it comes chirping birds, flower buds and, now, thanks to Sweet and Sara: pastel-hued vegan marshmallows.
Standard issue marshmallows are far from cruelty-free. Sadly, they include gelatin, an additive made from the skin, tendons, ligaments, and/or bones of cows or pigs. That’s not something most kids expect in their hot chocolate, now is it?
Luckily, Sweet and Sara specializes in vegan marshmallows, so fans of the pillowy treats don’t have to skip the s’mores.
While the New York-based company is most famous for making vegan Peeps (aka Veeps) this year it’s also introduced a brand new item: spring-colored mini marshmallows.
The marshmallows are available on the company’s website, and run $6.49 for a three-ounce bag. They come in pink, yellow, blue and lavender—all colored with natural dyes and done by hand.
So what’s in them, exactly? If you’re a label reader, here are the ingredients: tapioca syrup, vegan cane sugar, water, non-GMO corn starch, carrageenan, non-GMO soy protein, acacia, pure vanilla extract, sea salt, locust bean gum, organic confectioner’s sugar, beet juice, annato, caramel color, red cabbage, tumeric, purple grape, spirulina blue, vegan glycerine and sodium bicarbonate.
The company also has Veeps available for sale, but better hurry—word on the street is, they’re running low.
