Study: 50% of Consumers Want More Veg Options at Restaurants
Hallelujah: people are changing their minds about meat. According to a new report by Technomic, 62 percent of consumers say they eat meals without beef, pork, chicken or turkey at least once a week.
Clearly, people’s attitudes about animal products are changing, and fast. It wasn’t so long ago that every meal revolved around meat.
Unsurprisingly, among those who eat vegetarian or vegan meals, younger consumers (45 percent vs. 30 percent of older consumers) are more likely to follow a vegetarian or vegan diet.
The report also shows that people think seafood, vegetarian or vegan entrées are healthier than beef, pork and poultry options. (Well, they’re right about the vegan part.)
Also, the report shows that 50 percent of people want to choose from more veg options at restaurants. And, about half of those who also eat meat said that vegan or vegetarian options are just as satisfying (51 percent) or filling (59 percent). Booyah.
Hear that, restaurants? The people want their vegetables.
