Publisher Seeking Vegan-Themed Short Story Submissions
Want to engage and inspire people about the benefits of a plant-based lifestyle? Weave a compelling vegan-themed tale, and you could see your name in print in a new anthology.
Ashland Creek Press, a small, vegan-owned publishing company, is seeking short story submissions.
Last year, the company published an anthology called Among Animals. Now, they’re working on the next edition, and they want passionate vegans to put pen to paper.
“Ultimately, we’re looking for stories that engage readers — and not just vegan readers, but all readers,” says Ashland Creek Press co-founder John Yunker. “We want this collection to not just reflect where animal literature is headed, but help push it in that direction. Historically, an ‘environmental’ story may have consisted of an individual out hunting or fishing to become ‘one’ with the land. But this is clearly not what we’re looking for. My advice is similar to the advice that I give myself as a writer: Write what you most want to read.”
There’s no fee for submission, and stories should be between 2,500 to 7,500 words in length. Previously published stories are fine, as long as the writer has retained the rights to reprint the piece.
In case you need a little more guidance, Yunker also wrote a short article offering tips for the writers of animal rights fiction, which you can read here.
Submissions are being accepted on a rolling basis, and you can learn more about the process on the Ashland Creek Press website.
