No Waste Plant-Based Meal Kit Comes to SoCal

There’s no debating that meal kits are an awesome way to make life easier in the kitchen. Unfortunately they tend to be pretty wasteful, with tons of packaging that hits the landfill.

Not to mention, many are heavy on the meat and dairy.

If you’re looking to cut your carbon footprint, meet Simple Feast, a meal kit delivery service that’s plant-based and no waste. All packaging is recyclable, compostable or biodegradable, and all food is totally delicious.

All meals are designed by chefs with Michelin-starred backgrounds from restaurants like Noma and The French Laundry. During my trial, I had roasted buffalo cauliflower, rigatoni bolognese and roasted shawarma spiced tofu wraps.

Other sample meals include crispy potato tacos with lime-cilantro slaw, kale-walnut pesto pizza, and layered tikka masala, curried lentils, and rice.

The super-fresh produce is sourced locally from California USDA organic farmers, and unpurchased meals go to locals in need. The meals are partially prepared and take about 20 minutes to make.

You can order until Friday at noon for a drop off on Sunday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Dinners for 3 nights for 2-3 people cost $98 per week (includes shipping); and dinners for 3 nights for 4-5 people cost $159 per week (includes shipping).

In January alone Simple Feast saved 13,362,147 gallons of water and 493,341 pounds of CO2 against a meat-based diet. Simple Feast estimates that for every plant-based meal served, they save 2,235 lbs of CO2 and 60.5 gallons of water per meal compared to an average meat diet.

I promise you, it beats cooking for yourself!
