EXCLUSIVE: New Vegan Fast Food Concept Opening in San Diego, Calif.
“Anything you can eat, I can eat vegan.” Everyone on a plant-based diet knows the truth of that meme/hashtag, and that’s the genius behind Plant Power Fast Food, an innovative new concept about to open its first location in San Diego, California, in early January.
The drive-up spot — in the hip, surf-style neighborhood of Ocean Beach — will offer an entirely plant-based menu that features burgers, shakes, fries, tacos, wraps, smoothies, salads, and fresh juices. Customers will be able to cruise into a Sonic-style drive-up, order through a kiosk, and wait for a staffer to bring out their food. The vegan fast food spot will also offer a sit-down interior, complete with bamboo tables and aluminum chairs.
Founded by ethical vegans, the spot is all about winning hearts and minds through delicious, familiar food.
“Our secret mission has always been to turn more people on to a vegan diet,” Zach Vouga, VP of Operations, tells Latest Vegan News. “It’s obviously the wave of the future. But we totally understand that diet is such a personal issue and that each person goes at his or her own pace. So the Plant Power Fast Food brand is really all about turning people on to how delicious plant-based food can be. And we’re doing it in a way that’s welcoming and fun. Our brand isn’t preachy; the food itself is the message.”
The second location, in Encinitas, Calif., is set to open in spring of 2016, and will feature a full drive-through a la traditional fast food joints. The team is looking to create a regional chain of vegan fast food eateries over the next several years.
“Turning our vision into a reality is a group effort,” adds Mitch Wallis, CEO. “Plant Power Fast Food is a diverse, hardworking, enthusiastic team committed to bringing something wonderful to our world.”
The Ocean Beach locale will be open from 11 a.m. through 9 p.m., seven days per week. After about six months they plan to kick off a breakfast menu featuring “egg” sandwiches, bagels and vegan cream cheese, and more.
With more and more Americans opting into plant-based options (and with the disturbing news about the health effects of eating meat) — it’s clear that healthier fast food is the future.
You can follow Plant Power Fast Food via Facebook, and learn more about the concept on the website, PlantPowerFastFood.com.

Oh, Good Vegans in Heaven, Franchize this puppy for sure. Waiting in Texas.
This is so exciting! We have waited a long time for this. Can’t wait until the spring, Encinitas is just a few miles from me.
Yay! People’s vegan buffet and vegan fast food across the street- sweeeeetness!
Wow. Mouth-watering and Vegan. This is a dream come true for me.
I can hardly wait! The food looks fantastic!
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You guys do know about San Diego Vegan Drive Thru – already there, right? http://evolutionfastfood.com/
So, not really a “new” concept.
Hi David! Yes, Evolution Fast Food is also in the area, but Plant Power Fast Food is its own concept, and the brand was created specifically to become a regional chain. The founder of Evolution Fast Food is also one of the three partners in Plant Power Fast Food, and the PPFF folks have said they’re fans of Evolution (which isn’t going anywhere). Both companies will serve the community with vegan eats. 🙂
Hannah,
When you say Regional, do you mean San Diego-area? Any plans for expansion to Northern California where I live?
Clyde (aka David)
LOL, my apologies Clyde! I have no idea where David came from. 🙂 To answer your question, I know PPFF intends to start developing a regional chain in the Western U.S., then extend outwards from there. The first two locales will be in San Diego, but I’m sure Northern Cali is on their long-term radar! They have big plans but as with anything it’ll take some time to get the capital, etc., for large-scale expansion. Might be worth a trip down south just to try it out! Maybe you can convince ’em to come north! 🙂
Mitch, the CEO, is the owner of Evolution as well, how is it it’s own concept?
Great! But, is it Non-GMO & Organic???
I think the ethically vegan, not healthy vegan verbage might be an answer to that question. Would be awesome if it were both healthy and ethically vegan like Peace Pies right down the street.
I am so jealous! Why does California get all the good stuff first? I too will be waiting in Texas. Houston is PRIMED fo a franchise. Please come. Congratulations on a fabulous new and innovative idea. I wish you all the best success.
Colorado next please!!!!
I am so excited for this!! Being a vegan, as well as a busy mom on the run….I’m always saying we need more vegan fast food places!! Yay! I first noticed this when I drove by the future site of the Encinitas location (about a mile from my house!) Will be really excited when that one opens but until then we’ll make a special trip to the one in OB (my old neighborhood) and get some Plant Power goodies! ?
I hope they Franchise, would love to have one here in Florida!
I think this is a great addition to the north San Diego area! Especially for moms looking to get some food for their little ones with out getting them out of the car! Compassionate to our bodies, animals, and the environment! A triple win!
How can I start a franchise in Annapolis Maryland?
When is the Encinitas store opening? We can’t wait!
I am so happy and grateful to the owners for creating this healthier , environmentally and animal friendly option. I just found out about it and will be going there soon since I live close by in the neighboring town of Carlsbad. The more they’re able to expand, the more human and animal lives will be saved. ?
