Update: Moby Says His New Vegan Eatery Is Called Little Pine; Looks to Open This Summer
Update: Last week we reported that Moby’s new vegan eatery would take the title of Little Pine (according to Moby himself, who dropped the name during an appearance on the Hallmark channel). See below for the original story and video evidence.
Today, LA Weekly adds more to the story. The restaurant will be run by chef Anne Thornton (previously of Waverly Inn and Hotel Griffou), and is scheduled to start serving this summer. The spot will only for dinner at first, though breakfast, lunch and weekend brunch will follow.
LA Weekly’s story also offers a sneak peek at the vegan, organic menu items, which include: “lemon mint pea pate with crostini and crudités, pan bagnat with crushed garbanzo beans, niçoise olive tapenade on a crunchy baguette, and mushroom leek pot pie with leeks and root vegetables in rich gravy.”
This week, musician Moby and Farm Sanctuary founder Gene Baur hit up the Hallmark channel. They bantered with a chatty host and random audience of TV stars, talked about the virtues of veganism and even cooked an “improvised” vegan chili.
During the lively conversation, one of the guests asked Moby about his new vegan restaurant. He then revealed that the project is under the culinary direction of his friend Ann.
“My friend Ann, she’s a classically trained chef,” he explained. “She used to work with veal and foie gras and at one point—maybe this is a bad thing to say, but—she was doing a cooking demo in Indiana, and she looked at the audience and she realized that everyone in the audience was dangerously obese, and she realized that her food was hurting people. So she became a vegan, she lost 80 pounds and this is going to be her first vegan restaurant. It’s called Little Pine*.”
(*At least, that’s what it sounded like.)
If Eater Los Angeles is correct, it looks like the restaurant might be located in LA’s Silver Lake neighborhood. The eatery in that spot is slated to open in July of this year.
