Maryland-Based Vegan Coffee Company to Donate Proceeds to Animals

As Special Agent Dale Cooper reminded us, everyone loves a cup of damn good coffee. To that end, a new Indiegogo campaign is raising funds for a company that plans to brew beans that are not only damn good for the drinker, but damn good for the animals, the environment and humans, too.

Dubbed Brewing Good, the Maryland-based company is the creation of Justin Leonard and Karla Goodson. Leonard, a photographer, professor and vegan chef, and Goodson, a full-time advocate who works for Animal Rescuer Corps, wanted to channel their passion into a product that benefited everyone involved.

“Brewing Good Coffee Company is focused on ensuring the standards under which our beans are grown and the quality of our coffee match our strong commitment to animals,” Goodson tells Latest Vegan News. “We source beans that are bird-friendly, organic, and fair trade and craft roast them to order so our customers can support great animal protection organizations by simply enjoying fresh, high-quality coffee conveniently delivered to their door.”

The coffee will also be sold in compostable coffee bags with a water-dissolvable label. It’ll come in light, medium, and dark roast blends, single-origin selections, decaf, and espresso, but they’re also offering an exclusive light-medium roast coffee called Founder’s Blend that’s available only to Indiegogo campaign contributors.

With 23 days left, the duo has raised $2,650 of their $10,000 goal. The funds raised will go towards commercial kitchen rent, coffee beans, supplies, additional equipment (such as a commercial grinder so we can offer ground coffee in addition to whole bean) and other necessary expenses.

“Brewing Good Coffee Company is the first and only web-based craft roaster whose mission is to raise funds for a variety of nonprofits working to rescue animals and advocate for their protection,” Goodson adds. “Every month, we will feature an organization that is saving the lives of companion animals, wildlife, farmed animals, and more and that month’s sales will support their work.”

Perks include logo bags, t-shirts, coffee (of course!), and more.

They’ll start selling coffee online and raising money for animals this August.

You can donate to Brewing Good’s campaign through July 15th. Visit the company’s Indiegogo page for more info and to oledge funds.
