IKEA Vegan Meatballs Hitting Stores April 9th
It’s official, Swedish furniture giant IKEA is rolling out its hotly anticipated vegan meatballs. Last year, after trace amounts of horse meat were found in the mega-chain’s popular meatball menu item, the brand announced that veggie balls would be its newest addition.
And now, the meatballs have finally arrive. Called GRÖNSAKSBULLAR, they’re hitting IKEA restaurants tomorrow, April 9th. Reportedly, the price is $4.49 for 10 balls (except, oddly enough, in Carson, CA).
The IKEA vegan meatballs are a blend of green peas, carrot, chickpeas, bell peppers, corn, kale, pea starch, seasonings, onion and canola oil, reports Gothamist.
“We will continue to serve delicious food, offering a taste of Sweden at affordable prices, but with increasing focus on the aspects of food that are really important to people: health and sustainability,” said Michael La Cour, Managing Director of IKEA Food Services AB in a press release. “We have high ambitions, and our journey in this direction has just begun. I am proud that we now take the first step and start serving veggie balls.”
The company says it sells more than one billion meatballs each year, according to Gothamist, which is a truly mind-boggling amount of ground beef.
In the release, the chain promises that its new food items will “be produced in a responsible manner that considers people, planet, and animal welfare, based on our People and Planet Positive strategy.” Let’s home more vegan items follow suit.
Now that IKEA vegan meatballs are on the menu, you can go forth and shop while satiated.
