Gentle Barn Sanctuary Opening Second Location in Tennessee
If animal sanctuaries were everywhere, it’s likely a lot more people would consider a vegan lifestyle. As Jon Stewart said, it’s harder to eat meat when you know the animal’s name.
The Gentle Barn, California’s famous haven for farmed animals, wants to make this dream a reality. This June, the organization is opening a second location (hopefully the first of many) in Knoxville, Tennessee.
The Gentle Barn team made the announcement via Facebook, and opening day for the peaceful new spot is scheduled for June 6. The locale will also be open every Saturday to follow. Tickets are on sale for $25 each, so visitors can come take a tour.
Residents at the Tennessee outpost include Dudley (a cow with a prosthetic foot), Worthy (a horse born with a deformed leg, now fixed via surgery), Indie (Worthy’s mom) and Chris.
Gentle Barn founders Ellie Laks and Jay Weiner will also be on site during the month of June, so visitors will get to meet the compassionate duo.
“Our goal is to eventually have a Gentle Barn in every state in the country so that every one can hug cows, cuddle turkeys, give pigs tummy rubs, and fall in love with animals,” the org wrote via Facebook.
Sounds like a plan.
The Gentle Barn Tennessee opens June 6 in Knoxville, Tennessee. It’ll be open to visitors every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets to visit are $25 each.
