Bacon Egg Breakfast Burger Named Best Veggie Burger in America

The BAD burger, in the flesh

Who doesn’t love breakfast for dinner?! It’s basically the best concept ever — and IMO, sandwiches are the ultimate breakfast food.

Obviously others agree, because a stacked vegan breakfast burger just won the title of Best Veggie Burger in America!

Last night was the fourth annual Plant Based Burger Battle, an iconic event that’s part of Seed Food & Wine Week (literally my favorite week of the year).

The showdown has the nation’s best chefs and eateries create insanely awesome, cruelty-free burger creations. Celebrity judges — and the foodie crowd — pick their faves.

This year, Fort Lauderdale’s Green Bar & Kitchen — in partnership with popular plant meat brand Field Roast — won the battle with its “BAD” burger, aka Breakfast All Day.

The rich, melty, indulgent sammie was a Field Roast patty topped with Just Egg, a hash brown, tempeh “bacon”, Chao cheese, and a maple glaze, all grilled up on a flaky croissant from Miami’s L’Artisane bakery. I want to eat it for breakfast every day until I die.

The concept was created by Field Roast master chef Tommy McDonald and Green Bar co-owner Charlie Grippo.

Planta South Beach’s Black and Bleu burger

Celeb judges included Marco Borges of 22 Days Nutrition, Marco Regil of Telemundo, Karla Dascal of The Sacred Space and Plant, and Bad Ass Vegan John Lewis. “Breakfast is just everybody’s favorite and a lot of restaurants are doing breakfast all day now,” says Charlie of how the two created the burger concept. “I told Tommy that I’d love to put a spin on that.”

The winning burger will be available on Green Bar & Kitchen’s Sunday brunch menu moving forward. Btw if you’re anywhere near South Florida and haven’t been to Green Bar, get there IMMEDIATELY.

Green Bar’s creation also won second prize in the crowd favorite vote! Denver’s Meta Burger won first place and Planta South Beach took number three. There were 10 burgers entered in total and honestly, ALL were amazing. In addition to the above, contenders included Chef Sol (Miami), Bubbles and Pearls (Wilton Manors), Soul Tavern (Miami), Burgerlords (Los Angeles), Drink Mycotea (Vero Beach), Arlo’s Curbside Kitchen (Austin), Vegan Junkie (Miami), and Sparrow Lane.

To add to the burger battle fun, it was Green Bar co-owner Elena Pezzo’s birthday — and partner Charlie proposed! She said yes, duh, and it was adorable.
