A Vegan Thanksgiving ‘Leftovers’ Sandwich is the Hottest Trend This Season

Everyone knows the best part about Thanksgiving is the leftovers. (And they’re even better when you don’t have to slave over a hot stove yourself.)

Enter the Thanksgiving leftover sandwich — the hottest new trend to hit eateries from coast to coast. Essentially, it’s all the traditional Thanksgiving fixins stuffed on bread or a bun.

Usually that means a meatless turkey, mashed potatoes and/or yams, cranberry sauce, stuffing, and (of course) gravy. All of the holiday deliciousness in each and every bite.

by CHLOE, which has locations in California, Massachusetts, New York, and Rhode Island (and Canada), is currently serving up the Gobble Gobble, a sammie stuffed with lemon-caper seitan, sautéed kale, rosemary gravy, harvest stuffing, fresh cranberry sauce on a potato bun.

Then there’s the ever popular Veggie Grill, a plant-based fast casual spot with locations in California, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, Oregon, and Washington.

Its Thanksgiving dinner sandwich features a roasted “turkey”, apple sausage stuffing, gravy & cranberry sauce and a side of mashed yams.

Oh, and the California, Nevada, and Texas chain, Ike’s Sandwiches (known for its massive menu of sandwich options, all of which can be made vegan) is offering the pilgrim: vegan turkey, cranberry sauce, sriracha, and havarti cheese.

There are lots of other spots offering variations nationwide, from the Thanksliving sando at Munchies Diner in Long Beach, Calif. (a pretzel bun stacked with house-made cranberry sauce, vegan turkey, provolone cheese, mashed potatoes, gluten-free stuffing, mac and cheese, scratch gravy, and corn) to the leftovers sandwich at NYC’s Urban Vegan Kitchen (rosemary-thyme tofu, garlicky green beans, cranberry aioli, and gravy).

So this season, why not pack in as many Thanksliving feasts as possible?! Get out the stretchy pants and put some early leftovers in your face.
